A Message from Kathy Baker (site owner)
I began thinking about the girls that camped at Maqua the year my husband and I bought the lodge in 1987. We have summered there with our four children and grandchildren, enjoying similar activities the campers must have enjoyed. I could hear the walls talk, and knew there must be stories!
Many women have stopped on the lawn over the years, just to see if the camp still existed. I loved their stories and began interviewing them, as well as researching the archives at the YWCA Great Lakes Bay Region, which used to be the Bay City YWCA.
My research began in 2012 and my goal was to have a book published by the Centennial in 2016. There was too much content for one book, so I have paid to have a website constructed to continue with the history and the women’s stories.
I owe a debt of gratitude to my editor Debra Marrs, who has encouraged me and assisted me with some of the technical details of authorship and computer skills.
